Why Serve?

At First Pres, we believe that every person has unique, God-given gifts and talents to be used for his Kingdom and his glory. We want to help you identify and use your gifts for the sake of building up the church. There are three primary ways to serve at First Pres:  serve at Sunday worship, serve our church community, and serve the city of Aurora.

SERVE AT SUNDAY WORSHIP

We have a lot of moving parts on Sunday mornings, and it takes a lot of people to help things run smoothly. Our goal on Sunday mornings is to create an environment where we can have a fresh encounter with God the Father and come to know Jesus through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. We have several different ways to serve on Sunday mornings, including:

Music Ministries:  Do you have a passion or talent for music? We have vocal choirs for all ages, a worship band, bell choir, and other ways you can use your enthusiasm for music to serve God and bless our church body.  Click here for more information on our Music Ministries.

Tech Ministries:  If you have an interest in multimedia or sound, we can use those passions for Sunday morning worship. Training is provided.

Greeters:  If you enjoy people, smiling and saying hello, greeting ministry could be for you! Greeters proved that crucial "first-encounter" for people as they enter the church.

Ushers:  If you love hospitality, consider being an usher. Ushers provide a warm smile, assist people to their seats, collect the offering, and maintain a welcoming worship environment.

SERVE OUR CHURCH COMMUNITY

Beyond Sunday morning worship, we have several other opportunities to serve within our church. We'd love to talk with you about some ways you could get involved, including leading adult or children's Sunday School, helping out with marriage mentoring, serving Senior adults or adults with special needs, or leading a small group. Use the contact form below to share with us your interests, and we'll work to help you find a way to use them.

SERVE OUR CITY: GO TEAMS

We are passionate about serving the city of Aurora and providing opportunities for people to get outside of the church walls and bless the neighborhood. The primary way we do this is through our Go Teams. Go Teams are groups focused on specific service and outreach opportunities in our city. Go Teams serve together, and also gather together once a month for Bible study, prayer and encouragement on Go Team Sunday, the third Sunday of the month during the Sunday School hour (9:15-10:15 am). Here are the available Go Teams:

Bardwell Elementary Go Team:  Serve our local elementary school and connect with children through mentoring or our weekly after-school program on Fridays. Contact: David Goetz (dgoetz@firstpresaurora.org)

Children’s Sunday School Go Team:  Help lead weekly Sunday School classes for children on Sunday mornings, focused on Bible teaching and building relationships. Contact: David Goetz (dgoetz@firstpresaurora.org)

Disability Ministry Go Team:  The Disability Ministry Team seeks to be the hands and feet of Jesus to families affected by disabilities both inside and outside our church community. Contact: Karen Roberts (karenroberts@mchsi.com)

Explore God Evangelism Team: Learn how to initiate spiritual conversations, share your story of Christ and clearly communicate the Gospel to friends and neighbors through seeker oriented small groups. Contact: Pastor Jeff Moore (pastorjeff@firstpresaurora.org)

Kingdom Kid’s Club Go Team: Serve with our after-school outreach to children on Mondays and Wednesdays. There are many ways to serve, including teaching, homework tutoring, meal prep, recreation and clean up. Contact: Brenda Bustammente (bbustamente@firstpresaurora.org)

Men’s Service Go Team: Connect with other men through hands-on service opportunities both inside First Pres and outside in our neighborhood. Contact: Pastor Isaiah Nordhagen (inordhagen@firstpresaurora.org)

Prayer Go Team: Support everything we are doing through regularly interceding in prayer, both on your own and through intentional prayer events such as prayer walks, prayer services, and praying at Planned Parenthood. Contact: John and Mary Ann Vincent (jkvincent7@hotmail.com)
