CHILDREN at first pres
Family Discipleship Ministries at First Pres exist to support, serve, and resource families as they seek to know God, be transformed by his word, and live missionally together. We do this through four main channels: Family Worship, Pray for Me, Kingdom Kid's Club and Sunday School, and for one big reason: the glory of God and the good of our city.
The majority of our spiritual formation takes place at home, in the context of our relationships with one another, as we work and play and rest together. Because of this, we are intentional about offering resources, training and events to help parents and families think about, plan, and implement strategies and rhythms of discipleship and mission in the home that foster a love for God and his word and provide space for children to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ through spiritual disciplines.
We also invite children into the worship service because we believe they are an integral part of the church today. For children under 4, nursery is available during the 8:00 and 10:30 Sunday morning services. Nursery is also available during all applicable church events and services outside of Sunday mornings.
Pray for Me Campaign
We value intentional, intergenerational relationships as a part of our ministry to families here at First Pres. Because of this, we encourage families in our church to join the Pray for Me Campaign, which connects families with Prayer Champions of different generations who are committed to praying faithfully for the children of the families within their church. This ministry also hosts occasional trainings and events for participants.

Kingdom Kid's Club After School Program
Kid’s Club is our midweek gathering for children from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Kid’s Club prepares and equips children through a loving relationship with Jesus Christ to live as leaders of integrity, justice, and compassion. Kid’s Club meets on Mondays (3:30-5:30) and Wednesdays (3:30-6:45) during the school year. Monday’s meeting focuses on tutoring, and includes Bible memory, a snack, and gym time. Wednesday’s meetings include tutoring, gym time, music, a Bible lesson with age-appropriate small group time, and a free dinner.

Children's Sunday School
Our children’s Sunday School classes meet upstairs from 9:15-10:15 and are for children from 2 years old through 5th grade. Throughout the summer, all children's Sunday School classes will meet together in a small group/large group format where we will spend time worshiping and learning together along the themes of Christian Maturity in 2 Corinthians and A Spirit Filled Church in the book of Ephesians. Children ages 2-5th grade can be checked in to Sunday School at the top of the staircase in Murray Commons and picked up from the large worship space in the children's area upstairs. Parents are invited to join their child for a week or two during the summer to experience the worship and learning time. We use Hearts Alive, a gospel-centered children’s curriculum designed to help children see and come to know Jesus through the entire Bible by studying and engaging with Scripture in age-appropriate ways.
Nothing is more important in your life than being one of God’s tools to form a human soul. But in the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything "right" and raise up "good" children, it's easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.
Based on his award-winning and best-selling Parenting book, Dr. Paul David Tripp will be streaming a four-session, perspective-changing event to moms and dads around the world. With encouraging and refreshing teaching, Tripp will offer much more than a to-do list. Instead, he will present us with a big-picture view of God's plan for us as parents.
But this event is not solely for parents - grandparents, youth ministry leaders, and anyone who knows and loves a parent should attend to be equipped with this life-changing gospel message!
The class will meet each Sunday in October in Graham Hall and each week will feature a different gospel principle for parenting, provide a brief time for reflection, group or couple discussion, and prayer, and include a family potluck dinner. This is sure to be an encouraging time of community and learning together as we seek to parent faithfully, whatever stage of parenting we are in.
Cost is $30 per family, and can be dropped off at the church office or paid on the first day of the class. Childcare is included. Contact Lindsey Goetz with questions.
