Keyboard accompanist

at First Presbyterian Church (EPC) in Aurora, Illinois


First Presbyterian Church, a Gospel-centered, multi-generational congregation with 300 regularly attending, located in an urban, multi-cultural neighborhood near downtown Aurora, is looking for a part time keyboard accompanist to help it fulfill its worship mission. We are committed to both a flexible convergent structure and, more importantly for this position, a style that is blended with both traditional and contemporary musical elements. The right candidate for this position will allow us to continue to lean into both these styles in order that God might be glorified through the congregation’s corporate worship. 

Generally 8 hours per week plus personal preparation; more during special seasons; less during summer

  • Serve as primary keyboardist for Sunday mornings including pre-service rehearsal and worship services both as sole accompanying instrument (traditional hymns and choir accompanist) and as a worship band member (contemporary) (5 hours per week)
  • Serve as primary keyboardist at special services throughout the church year (e.g. Christmas Eve, Good Friday, etc.) (2-4 hours per special service with rehearsal)  Accompany the church choir at weekly rehearsals (Wednesdays) September-May (1¼ hours per week)
  • Accompany the church choir at special rehearsals (approximately 15-17 Sunday afternoons) for Advent/Christmas and Holy Week (1½ hours per week)
  • Participate as the primary keyboardist in the worship band for weekly rehearsals (currently Tuesdays) (1½-2 hours per week)
  • Personally prepare for choir and band rehearsals and worship services (? hours) 


  • Demonstrates a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ
  • Comfortable with and supportive of both traditional and contemporary music in a blended worship setting
  • Strong piano skills a must (we have an excellent Steinway)
  • Ability to play organ a plus (we have an excellent pipe organ)
  • Excellent sight-reader
  • Sensitive accompanist
  • Positive attitude and flexibility
  • Responsible and trustworthy
  • Ability to improvise from lead sheets


  • This position will report to the Director of Worship and Music


  • Depends on skill level and experience
  • First right of refusal for additional paid services (funerals, weddings, etc.)
